Facebook Mafia Wars Robbing Tips & Tricks

Mafia Wars is one of the most popular and addicting games on Facebook. In March, Mafia Wars reintroduced the ability to rob other players' properties. The new robbing system contains many features that weren't part of the original, and offers many new rewards.

What's New

The new Mafia Wars robbing system works much differently than the old one. The new system consists of a three-by-three grid of random properties, each of which is assigned a relative difficulty. The three difficulties that can be assigned are "easy," "medium," and "hard."

In addition, each different type of property costs a different amount of stamina to rob and has limitations on the number of mafia members you can use to attack it. A restaurant, for example, uses 7 stamina to rob and uses the top 35 members of your mafia to determine your attack score, whereas a Mega Casino uses 20 stamina and 500 members. Conversely, this is also the maximum number of mafia members that your opponent can use to defend their property.

It's generally a bad idea to attack a property that uses more mafia members than you have unless it's labeled as "easy." Going up against a Mega Casino when you only have 100 members in your own mafia will more often than not lead to failure.

Robbing Experience and Mastery

Every time you successfully rob a property, you not only gain experience for your character, you also increase your robbing mastery level. Each level of mastery increases the amount of experience you gain from successfully robbing other properties. There are currently ten levels of robbing mastery, although higher levels require you to successfully complete hundreds and even thousands of robberies in order to advance to the next level.

Clear the Board Bonus

One of the unique aspects of the new Mafia Wars robbing system is that, if you clear a board of nine robberies, you get a bonus. This bonus generally consists of a random item, which can be any item type, and a little bit of extra experience. The amount of experience gained from clearing a board is based on the number of successful robberies you completed in that particular set.

Refreshing the Board

ne way to maximize the amount you get out of robbing on Mafia Wars is to use a little bit of stamina to refresh the board when you're losing. The amount of stamina needed to refresh the board is 9 minus the number of robberies attempted. For example, if you've attempted five robberies on the current board, it would cost 4 stamina to refresh the robbing board.

This can be used to your advantage if you're failing a lot of robberies. Since you won't receive bonus experience from failed robberies, it's sometimes better to use a couple stamina points to refresh the robbing board than to complete the board and receive a very small bonus. This is most useful when you've struggled on a particular set of properties and the only ones left require more than 10 stamina points to rob (the Mega Casinos, for example).

Tools of the Trade and Stolen Diamonds Collections

Mafia Wars robbing also has two new collections which are very helpful to complete. The Tools of the Trade collection items drop fairly frequently, and the collection bonus gives you more money and item drops when you rob. The Stolen Diamonds collection, on the other hand, has an extremely low drop rate, but increases your chance of getting successful robberies. Each robbing collection will also give you an extra skill point when you successfully vault them.

Patience Is a Virtue in Mafia Wars

The best thing to remember when wading through the new Mafia Wars robbing system is to be patient. It will take a long time to reach level 10 mastery and complete the Stolen Diamonds collection (I've completed almost a thousand robberies and only received one of the seven diamonds). If you know someone else who plays Mafia Wars extensively, you can ask them for help in completing the collections. Also remember that the more you rob, the bigger the rewards. It may seem daunting at first, but once you get the hang of it, Mafia Wars robbing offers another way to keep the gaming experience fresh and exciting.

Facebook Mafia Wars Mystery Vault

The Mystery Vault is new to Mafia Wars. It is a randomly appearing pop up that players are seeing from time to time that gives them the opportunity to find some limited loot, Reward Points or experience points.

To make use of the Mystery Vault you must click on “Email Me The Code!” You will have to give Zynga your email address of course.

After you have provided your email you will get a new email message from Mafia Wars or Zynga with a link in it that you will have to click. When you click the link you will be returned to your Mafia Wars page where you will be presented with a new message, which you must click in order to open the vault.

You can find random limited loot items, 1000 Reward Points, or 250 XP. To be totally honest you are most likely to find the experience points since giving away 1000 reward points would be counter productive to a game with the sale of reward points as its revenue model.

Mafia Wars Weapons Animal Kingdom for Fighting and Robbing

Getting a little tired of simply gunning down your enemies in Mafia Wars?

You're in luck. Beginning next week, you'll have a literal menagerie of new weapons. Namely, the animal kingdom.

Mafia Wars, a Facebook game by Zynga with over 25 million current players, posted news on their blog stating, "Animals are soon going to be a separate category of items that will be used in fighting and robbing." That means, besides Weapon, Armor, and Vehicle, each mobster will now be an Animal category.

According to the game's Facebook fan page, lions, tigers, and pit bulls are just a few of the animals you'll be able to buy and use. Players will be able to acquire animals in two ways. This week only, Mafia Wars is hosting an 'Animals Gone Wild' event where players can loot animals from jobs, fighting and robbing. Just keep in mind that any animals found during 'Animals Gone Wild' won't be weaponized until next week. If you're looking for one animal in particular, you can also purchase it at the Marketplace.

1. Your mafia size should be at least the equivalent of your level.

2. Make sure your mafia is equipped!

3. Level Up!

4. Don't rob other players.

5. Win a lot of fights.

6. Don't put people on the hitlist.

7. Protect your property.

How to use Energy Pack ?

Don't use energy packs simply to level up. Using them for Collecting Cameras, Untraceable Cell Phones, Concealable Cameras, and Computer Set-ups. You need around 400 cell phones, probably around 500 or 600 concealable cameras, and 250 computer set-ups to master all the jobs.

Step by Step process:

1. Keep your energy pack until you level up.

2. Get to a fresh level.

3. Demote your Mastermind.

4. Use all of your energy on robbing the electronics store (enforcer tier).

5. Use your energy pack when you are out of energy.

6. Rob the electronics store until you almost level up.

7. Re-promote your Mastermind.

8. You should do your most expensive job right before you level up so you can get a head start on the next level.

9. Continue leveling!

• Guerrilla Squad (+64) Cuban Armor found in the job 'Supply The FRG With Some Extra Muscle'
• Armored State Car (+68) Cuban Vehicle found in the job 'Storm The Presidential Palacet'

Weapon:

TNT - 42 Attack, 20 defense - drops from the "Raid the Arms Depot" job in the El Padrino tier.

Vehicle:

Hu-9 Helicopter - 36 attack, 27 defense - drops from the "Attack the Army Command Post" job in the El Padrino tier.

Armor:

Guerrilla Squad - 30 attack, 34 defense - drops from the "Supply the FRG with Some Extra Muscle" job in the El Padrino tier.

4. Do not waste godfather points on reward items

Summary

By increasing your Mafia size (up to 501), making sure your mafia is stocked up on the best equipment, by putting some stat points in Attack, and by spending Godfather points on stats to add to attack, you can be sure to increase your chances of winning. However, you will never win 100% of fights - opponents who are Top Mafia bodyguards have a chance to always win on defense, plus critical hits, which are infrequent but occur, will always cause a loss in a fight.

Offensive and Defensive Best Weapons.

New York Weapons

Chain Gun (+30) This can be bought early on, and as soon as you can afford it max out your inventory with them When reaching Level 99 Swap out the chain guns for Bonus Weapons (+40), these are the best weapons you can purchase in early on in Mafia Wars

Armour

In New York there are limited options available, Body Armor (+11) is the best, but almost any loot is better!

Vehicles

Town cars (+22) win out here and remember there is a achievement bonus for owning 500 Town cars, (after you have bought them you can sell them to reduce your upkeep)

In Cuba

Weapons

None, the New York Bonus Weapons are better items so only buy what you need for jobs here

Armour

Rebel Sniper (+42) are the winning items here, buy as many as you can, but remember each one bought increases your 'Bribe Penalty' by 0.5% up to the Max of 80%

Vehicles

Commercial Helicopter (+44) Sell all the town cars and replace them with Choppers, because there is nothing more scary then 501 Mafia coming over the horizon in Choppers carrying bonus Weapons! But don't forget your Bribe Penalty!

Assign your best mafia members to positions within your mafia. Each position has a unique bonus which can be greater depending on who gets promoted to that position. Check it out

Mastermind – Choose a member with many jobs completed to promote to Mastermind to get more experience points from doing jobs. Your Mastermind gains a small chance of gaining 50% more experience when performing jobs.

Wheelman – Choose a member with the Fearless character type and a high level to promote to Wheelman to get a reduced energy cost for jobs. Your Wheelman gains a small chance to perform jobs for no energy.

Button Man – Choose a member with the Maniac character type and a high level to promote to Button Man to get an Attack bonus. Your Button Man gains a small chance to always win fights they initiate.

An Interview with Artist Rebecca: Mafia Wars Developer

Kicking off our new Mafia Wars Fan Page Exclusive Developer Diary is an interview with Senior Artist, Rebecca. Rebecca has a love of the natural world and a fascination with its intricacies has always been integral in Rebecca's work. Her career as a professional illustrator has honed her abilities to capture nature's light, shape and forms; whether it be in expansive vistas or the delicate minutia of an insect's wing. Rebecca's love of the Natural Sciences led her to a career first in traditional Scientific Illustration and later, as technologies evolved, to high end 3D computer art and animation and a successful career as a computer illustrator and animator.

Hi, Rebecca! Tell us about what you do at Zynga.

I am Senior Artist for the Mafia Wars team, designing and creating the art assets for Mafia Wars. At times I'm also "borrowed" for whatever project needs some art TLC, especially Special Forces. I tend to run around with a fire extinguisher, lending a helping hand wherever there's chaos.

Chaos? At Zynga? Never! So, what does all that really mean?

I create all of those spiffy weapons, loot, and other neat toys of destruction that you see in your inventories, jobs, and other delightful distractions.

Do you have a favorite piece (or pieces) that you’ve done for Mafia Wars or any other Zynga game?

Well, that’s a tricky one… For Mafia Wars, I guess I would have to say the white tigers! C’mon, who WOULDN’T want to have a pair of giant furry bodyguards? Who’s going to argue with you when you’ve got a tiger sitting at your feet, and one with its head on your shoulder, STARING at the guy talking?

One of the fun things about Mafia Wars is that I’m essentially making collections for “me”! Shiny polished weapons of all kinds…. Sparkling jewels and cool nurnies…. Killer pets (no pun intended)… Who wouldn’t enjoy creating that sort of stuff all day?

When you were growing up, what did you want to become in life?

Believe it or not, a SCIENTIST! I loved all aspects of nature, from bugs 'n critters to astronomy and physics. To me, my chemistry and physics classes were ways to play and make magic happen in "real life". When I found out that illustration would let me be a part of those worlds, to be the "behind the scene" person at museums, I was hooked.

Do you have a tattoo? Where is it located, and what does it stand for?

LOL -- nope. I can't think of any particular image that I would LIKE well enough to want to wear it for decades at a time... Now, if I could have something that lasted, say, 6 months or a year and then either have it renewed or change it for something completely different.... THEN maybe. ;)

If you could go back in time and meet yourself as a 12 year old kid, what advice would you give him/her?

Explore more. ...I was terribly shy, and spent most of my growing up trying to figure out what I was "supposed" to do instead of actually "doing".

And what about advice for aspiring artists?

Get a good solid background in traditional REALISTIC art. Learn to draw, to see light and shadow, to see the big shapes that make up things. Observe animals of all kinds, and learn the STRUCTURE beneath the surface. When you’re learning to animate, start with stick figures. Yep, little skinny guys created from lines. If you do that, you’re focusing on movement, structure. If the stick guy is believable, then you have a base to start on. If he doesn’t move right, then no amount of perfect drawing over him will ever make him “real.” When I get my students (I also teach traditional art) to focus on learning to “see”, then it’s like the flood gates open.

Do you have any pets?

LOL Hooboy, what HAVEN’T I had is a better question… But right now, my focus is on our dogs. Nice alien dogs… There’s Bugg, our Mafia mascot. She’s a 6 lb Chiworgiesomthingorother who wears a diaper. I found her at the Animal Shelter with a crushed pelvis and decided she deserved a chance. She healed, but nerve damage is still there, hence the diaper. She was small as a Bug, cute as a bug… and SQUASHED like a bug… hence Bugg. She’s a nutcase, never standing still (just ask anyone who’s tried to take a picture of her), but absolutely silent. Yup, an alien lives under my desk. Then there’s Uuki, my giant hairless Peruvian version of Anubis –who is a 45 lb Velocipuppy. (That’s what you get when you cross a velociraptor with a puppy, for the slow ones in the group.) She’s another alien -- feels like a porpoise, runs like the wind, and blows bubbles in water. Aside from her nekedness, she has an unusual custom… Ok, most young dogs like to destroy their toys… but how many of them then KEEP all the little pieces as NEW toys in themselves? For example, she’s had a toy “hand” for months, 1” big, that she thinks is special. But her absolute favorites are the dismembered squeakers from inside the destroyed toys. I don’t know if it’s the taste, or the texture, but she ADORES her mangled squeakers. She will stare at you, chewing on dog-bubble-gum, then SPIT the squeaker into your hand so you can toss it up for her to catch again. Yup, aliens.

Which song best fits you and why?

Can't do that -- my musical interests range from music of the early 1900's to Coldplay, to Metallica, to Country and beyond. Right now, though, I am thoroughly enjoying the "Last Samurai" soundtrack because it lets my mind wander into the worlds it creates in my mind.

What color best describes your life and why?

Fern green. That color to me is a symbol of birth, life, renewal.

What’s the thing you enjoy most about working at Zynga?

PEOPLE CAN BRING THEIR DOGS TO WORK!!! Ok, so I’m an animal nut already, but when I can walk down the hallway and meet OTHER nuts, that’s just plain cool.

And, I like the nuts here. Zynga’s got some VERY talented and creative people – and there’s no attitudes. I can bounce ideas off my engineers, and they offer ideas in return – no tech / art barrier here. People at Zynga have really wide experiences, and they’re all creative. And, if I get an inspiration, I can pop a note directly to Mark (Pincus), and he takes it seriously! How many companies can you actually have meaningful conversations with the CEO?

What’s the thing you enjoy most about working on Mafia Wars?

There’s a huge variety of things to play with. It’s always changing, and we’re always looking for other fun things to do in the game, and I get to populate the world with loads and loads of cool nurnies.

Facebook Mafia War: Learn What is the Basic Fight Formula to Win the Mafia War

The basic formula to be used by MafiaWar, testing by players on mafia-wars.org:

COMBAT STRENGTH = (TOTAL MAFIA * (ATTACK + DEFENSE Skill Points)) + EQUIPMENT (ATTACK + DEFENSE Total Value of All Items Used)

• TOTAL MAFIA - Number of mafia in player’s family
• ATTACK - Attack Skill points of player, or Item Attack value
• DEFENSE - Defense Skill points of player, or Item Defense value
• EQUIPMENT - All weapons, armor and vehicles used in a fight
• Total Value - The total of an item’s Attack and Defense values

EXAMPLE:

Player 1: Level 20, 80 mafia, 500 skill points in Attack, 500 skill points in Defense, No Equipment.

(MAFIA(80) * ATT(500) + DEF(500)) + EQUIPMENT(100) = 80,100

Player 2: Level 100, 501 mafia, 50 skill points in Attack, 50 skill points in Defense, Lot of Equipment.

(MAFIA(501) * ATT(50) + DEF(50)) + EQUIPMENT(30,000) = 80,100

The number of mafia makes a big difference until both players in a fight have 501, the limit. But Equipment only makes a difference at low levels of Attack/Defense skill points.

Notice that adding only 1 more friend to the Level 20’s mafia family means beats the Level 100 player every time. Double the Level 20 player's mafia size to 160, and TWICE as strong as the other player. You wondered why lower level players are beating you in fights? It’s the skill points.

Player Level has no effect on who wins a fight.

Best method of using skills point is balancing points between the two Skills Attack and Defense (50/50).

*NEVER SPEND GODFATHER POINTS ON CRATES OF EQUIPMENT, OR ANYTHING ELSE BUT SKILL POINTS!*. 14 Godfather points gives you 4 skill points. If you are a fighter, then most of your skill points should go into Attack and Defense, equally.

Strategy: Not actually too bad. Once you work through Mafia Wars: Cuba, start buying businesses. Fully upgraded businesses will be able to knock this achievement out in 4 days.

Big Business - Earned by fully upgrading a single Cuban business.

Strategy: Will happen en route to International. Don't worry too much about this or the Tycoon achievement, just buy some businesses and they will pay to upgrade themselves soon enough.

Tycoon - Earned by fully upgrading all Cuban Businesses

Working Man - Earned by doing 20 jobs in one day

Strategy: Easy. They do not have to be different jobs - if you have 20 energy you can just do one energy jobs in the Street Thug tier and earn it easily. Or, you can just work on leveling up and you should get it!

Dependable - Earned by doing a job every day for seven days

Strategy: Do a job once every seven days.

Big Spender - Earned by purchasing an item or service with Reward Points

Strategy: Level up 28 times and buy +4 stat points, or spend your money on some.

Treasure Hunter - Earned by finding a rare item in a mystery crate

Strategy - Buy mystery crates. Sucks because the rares in the mystery crate are pretty poor quality, maybe they will upgrade them at some point

Slum Lord - Earned by owning 30 apartment complexes

Strategy - Buy 30 apartment complexes

Cashing out - Earned by selling 50 Mega Casinoes

Strategy - Buy and sell 50 Mega Casinoes. If you don't have any Mega Casinoes, you can buy and sell them 1 (or 10) at a time to save money.

Getting the Crew Together - Earned by promoting friends to each Top Mafia position

Strategy - Find some friends, promote them to top Mafia.

Crime C.E.O. - Earned by assembling a Top Mafia with all players above level 100

Strategy - Not too bad, by the time you have 50 or so Mafia members, you should be able to find enough to put in your Top Mafia.

Knife Thrower - Earned by looting 10 Butterfly Knives.

Strategy - You should earn this achievement just in the process of leveling up.

Uncle Sam - Earned by owning 50 federal agents.

Strategy - You get federal agents from the "Buy off a Federal Agent" job in the boss tier. They do not have a good drop rate, and the job requires blackmail photos, so I would recommend being a Master Boss before going for this achievement. It might take a few days worth of energy packs to collect enough blackmail photos to get this one.

What's after Trillion? - Earned by depositing 999 Trillion Dollars

Strategy - I'll be surprised if anyone ever gets this legitimately within the year. It took a few weeks for people to hit the 10 trillion mark, so getting 100 times that is going to take quite some time. I think this was just put in the game to give people who have done everything something to do.

Bulletproof - Earned by surviving for over 60 minutes on the Hit List.

Strategy - Surviving on the Hit List takes alot - you need to be able to win a lot of fights on defense (see guide), but you also need to have a lot of health so that you do not get knocked. On the hit list, you can be knocked out even if you win every fight. You can heal every 35 seconds so you need plenty of health at this stage, otherwise you will not last very long on the hitlist. The trick with the hitlist is to have a smaller bounty otherwise everyone will want to get the bigger bounty plus the larger bounties encourage stronger players. If you use the "fight" tab as a refresh button instead of "home" until your energy reaches 100 then quickly move to "health" and restore in good time.

That's Amore - Earned by gifting a Diamond Ring to any player under level 8

Strategy - Get a friend to play, gift them a ring before they get past level 8. In other news, the Diamond Ring crops up on everyone's wishlist!

The Best Offense - Earned by defeating 6 attackers in a row

Strategy - The best way to get attacked 6 times in a row is to get someone to list you on the hitlist after you get an outfitted Mafia of 501. It can be done earlier, but requires a bit of luck. Alternatively, you could have a weaker friend attack you until you get it.

Choose a Character

For those that have never played Zynga Facebook Mafia Wars the best character you can choose to be is "maniac"

Grow the Family

The important thing to remember is when you grow your mafia family the only reason why you should keep growing in mafia size is to get more of the Limited Edition Loot and Mafia Mikes. Once you are over 501 members they DO NOT HELP YOU IN A FIGHT.

Only equip with weapons to 501 and no more because they wont do any good.

In Mafia Wars, players form mob families by inviting other Facebook members to join. The more family members a mob has, the stronger they are. The first and ultimately most important key to advancing is to keep the mafia family growing. This can be done in a couple of ways:

* Players invite all of their friends to join

* Link to other players on one of the many add me pages in FB, thousand of players network on these pages

* Reciprocate when players join their mob family, Mafia War players can be members of more than one mob.

* One of the best ways to add literally hundreds of players with just the click of a few buttons is to join an email mass add. This list has been consolidated from over 20 of the largest Mafia Wars Groups and Fan Pages on Facebook. You can find one Click Here!

Profile Points

One of the best strategies to a Mafia Wars player is the careful use of profile points! The best way to allocate points is when you first start the game put them on Energy but only until you have a reasonable amount of energy to do some jobs!

Once you have levelled a few times put the points on your Defence. The defence is the most important allocation of points that you can have. So focus on defense more than anything. Once your defence is quite high you will notice that when people attack you will win most fights and win experience points helping you level faster.

Only higher level players should concentrate on spreading points on attack, health, energy and stamina

Godfather Points

Players often asked what is the best way to use Godfather Reward Points. Are the crates worth it? Is the "Limited Edition" Godfather loot worth it?

While it may be tempting to crack open that unknown crate of loot, we believe that there are really two ways that you should spend your hard earned Godfather Reward Points (or bought if you like completing offers or paying to play).

* Energy Refill: This is the best value at only 10 points. Used at a good time, you can probably level, which in turn would give you 5 profile points to use.

* 4 skill (upgrade) points: For 14 reward points you can obtain 4 additional points to spend to increase the stats on your profile. This is still a better option than purchasing the loot from the crates. Skill points have a MUCH LARGER outcome on the results of combat than loot does (and if you wanted, you could use them for more energy / stamina ... loot does nothing to help you level faster).

* Name Change: I am going to mention this only because it is a viable way to spend your points. Sometimes if joining a clan / group you might have a need to change your name.

Remember Winning/Losing Fights ... Level makes NO difference, Equipment makes little difference but the correct use of points does.

It is quite easy to gain 80+ experience an hour from doing absolutely nothing. If you have a large mafia that likes to fight it can be done. Whenever someone in your Mafia fights and you assist them as their Capo, you earn XP instantly. This is also referred to as "Social Fight Rewards".

If you have notifications enabled for Mafia Wars, you might see the "Click here to claim your reward". Which in turn will reward you with reward points.

Mafia Wars Boss

Using Boss Fights to maximize your XP gain into next level

Ideal Criteria Prior to Leveling

* Use all of your stamina.

* Use all of your energy with enough energy to do a job that provides maximum experience into the next level.

* Don't have any extra energy (this doesnt carry over).

Do Boss Fights Give Anything Special?

The short answer is no but you get a "trophy" on your Mafia Wars profile page that only you can see. Currently there is nothing special given or any reason for doing them.

Now simply do a boss level prior to levelling to maximize experience points

Facebook Mafia War guide for new players : Quick start

When you log in for the very first time, there is a little spiel to get you excited, a picture of your first property, Uncle Louies Deli and a bar with your initial stats.

Cash

Every hour your properties will pay out and any items you have with maintenance costs will deduct from your earnings. On the Properties tab which you will see later you can always see how much you are making and how much it is costing you.

Health

This is a fairly meaningless stat and it is the only naturally replenishing stat that the mafia game will not show you a timer on. It is critical in boss fights. Other than that, it just sets the amount of times you get attacked when a hit is put out on you and how many fights you can engage in before healing.

Energy

This is the principal source of your earned income and a large chunk of your XP. It will come back 1 point every 5 minutes unless you are a maniac character in which case you get 2 points. Jobs and items should be your initial focus once you get in to the game.

Stamina

This also regenerates at one point every 5 minutes. Stamina is used to try to attack other players, rob other players, cash in on a hit on another player, sucker punching, and placing hits on other players.

Do Something About It!

The mafia game will walk you through a simple series of examples of what the game contains once you are completely free to make your own choices. The first job is exactly what most will be about - You spend X energy for Y experience, some amount of money, and with some jobs, a small chance at special loot. And congratulations! Next you make your first attack and then buy your first property and the first real decision comes in to play.

Choosing your Character type

You can change your name later, but there is a fairly hefty cost, so think about how you would like your Mafioso name to be. "Don" plus your last name works well and the game supports multiple people with the same name. Default Don is the most common name out there followed by all the characters from the Mafia Godfather. The more unique and memorable your name, the easier it is for friends to find you. As for character type, here is a break down on what the choice entails.

Mogul

As a Mogul your cash flow comes every 54 minutes rather than every hour for the other character types. As a Mogul you are also the only character type eligible for being a Bagman. As a Bagman in one of your friends Top Mafia, you have the change to get double money from performing jobs.

Maniac

As a Maniac, you regenerates at a rate of 1 every 3 minutes instead of 5. You also become eligible to be a Button Man which gives you a chance to automatically win any fight you initiate. General consensus on the web before the Top Mafia changes was this was the best type to choose since energy makes you level faster.

Fearless

As a Fearless character your health regenerates at a faster rate. You also have the ability to be a Top Mafia Wheel Man which has the best special ability. Whenever you perform a job, there is a small chance that job costs no energy.

Your initial Skill Points

After you make your decision, you get your first skill points to spend. It is highly recommended you just upgrade your Energy till at least 30 before touching the other stats. Once you have levelled a few times put the points on your Defence. The defence is the most important allocation of points that you can have. So focus on defense more than anything. Only higher level players should concentrate on spreading points.

Starting over or... not

Unfortunately, the game currently does not really support anyway for starting over. If you are unhappy with your initial choices, you have to delete the application, wait 60 days for it to time out, and then log in again to get a clean start in the Mafia world. If you do wish to delete the app and wait 60 days, in the lower left hand corner of any Facebook page you should see a button labelled Applications. Click on it to open the menu and near the top of the menu you should see Edit. Choose this and then click on the x next to Mafia Wars to remove it as one of your applications.

Facebook Mafia Wars Bangkok Strategy Guide

Bangkok is an expansion city that is available for level 18+ players assuming they have Triad Coin, Yakuza Sake, Thai Note (collected from NY jobs) and Thai Passport. The energy and experience values for Bangkok jobs are different for players between levels 18-200 and 200+.

Bangkok has many new or updated aspects that are not seen in earlier cities, such as reputation, faction stores, boost producing businesses, four mastery levels and dynamic energy, experience and money payout values.

Factions and Reputation

The most visible new feature in Bangkok is the reputation system where you can earn reputation points towards either of the Bangkok factions, Triad or Yakuza.

As you gain more reputation with the factions you will be able to buy exclusive faction store items, unlock new episodes and businesses.

To gain reputation with a faction you must perform a choice point job for that faction or attack someone of the opposing faction in fight list. Doing a job will award you +3 (AND -1 for the opposing faction) reputation points while fighting awards +2 and -1. This means you can achieve maximum reputation with both factions at the same time and therefore get access to all reputation rewards.

Faction standing thresholds:

Hostile: 0 - 200 points

Suspicious: 201-400 points

Neutral: 401-700 points

Trusted: 701-1000 points

Honored: 1001-1400 points

Allied: 1401-1500 points

The initial standing is 50/1500 towards both factions.

Noteworthy Reputation Rewards

Yakuza Assassin, strongest amassable offensive armor - Allied with Yakuza Gun Running Operation, offensive boost production business – Trusted with Yakuza Unlock Episode 5B – Trusted with Yakuza

Shaolin Bodyguard, strongest amassable defensive armor - Allied with Triad Yaa Baa Parlor, defensive boost production business – Trusted with Triad Unlock Episode 5A – Trusted with Triad

For a high energy account without much fighting capabilities a great way to gain reputation fast is to do FIRST mastery choice point jobs in the early Bangkok episodes when the energy costs are at their lowest, you will still gain +3 and -1 per job done but gaining mastery will increase energy costs significantly but reputation point gains per job remain unchanged.

For normal accounts, fighting in Bangkok will give you all the reputation you need (while giving you $B as well).

Dynamic payouts and energy costs

In order to master an episode in Bangkok you need to fully complete it four times instead of the normal three. This makes for a whole lot of extra skill points but acquiring the mastery item from each episode takes significantly longer than you might be used to.

On top of this, energy costs increase each time you master an episode. The energy cost increases by 33% in the second level, by 66% in the third level and by 100% in the fourth level. Also, mastery % progression works a bit differently in Bangkok. The second level mastery increases are 75% of the first level, the third level mastery increases are 50% of the first level and the fourth level mastery increases are 25% of the first level.

For example: (standard rounding is used)

First level % mastery increase = 6% per job.

Second level % mastery increase = 0.75 * 6 = 5% per job

Third level % mastery increase = 0.5 * 6 = 3% per job

Fourth level % mastery increase = 0.25 * 6 = 2% per job

First level energy cost = 39

Second level energy cost = 39 * 1.33 = 52

Third level energy cost = 39 * 1.667 = 65

Fourth level energy cost = 39 * 2 = 78

What’s interesting is that the experience amounts (and money payouts) grow as well but in different proportion. Meaning that the exp/energy ratios change as well, for example a job might have 1.5 ratio on the first mastery but 1.97 on the fourth mastery. This makes it very beneficial for energy accounts to achieve 4th mastery of an episode so they can abuse the high ratio for consecutive level ups (energy refills).

So if you are wondering what a farmer account should do: keep farming with low energy costs and low drop rate or master first for higher drop rate AND a ratio that supports consecutive leveling? The answer is pretty clear that you should master first as you will be stuck after one load of energy when doing a bad ratio job anyway.

Bangkok Business

The money making businesses in Bangkok are a horrible, horrible investment. Currently it takes 50 days to get your initial investment back, twice as long as in Cuba! So I don’t recommend buying the businesses in their current state at all.

Buying businesses for drug shipments and pirates is a necessity unless you can get them from somewhere else. Pirates especially are needed even after mastering Bangkok to farm the only upgrade from Moscow.

The boost producing businesses are a good investment (if you fight). The boosts produced give a noticeable difference (+32 attack or defense) unlike hot coffees and pairs of eyes but most importantly they are amassable and therefore you will actually use them for most of your fights, unlike smoke grenades or other high end boosts which you don’t even notice before they are gone. Unfortunately it takes $B40,000,000 to fully upgrade both boost producing businesses and you’d probably be much better off with 90~ Yakuza Assassins or Shaolin Bodyguards.
